Whether you’re cleaning your home or your Kelowna self-storage unit, the principles are the same. Organize, declutter, and clean, and you’ll be amazed at how much better it will look and feel.

Airport Village Self-Storage has a few tips and tricks for checking items off your home and storage unit checklist.

Organize Everything

The first step towards checking off your cleaning tasks is to organize. After a long winter indoors, it may be time to declutter your home or go through your Kelowna storage and see what can be trashed or donated.

Once the clutter is gone, organize things in a way that makes sense for you. If you’re organizing self-storage, group items by how often they’re used, with things you use most often at the front of the unit. If it’s in your home, organize room by room in a system that will be easy to remember and maintain. Once the organization is done, the cleaning can begin.

Home and Storage Cleaning Checklist

First, whether in your Kelowna storage units or your home, go through with a feather duster and get rid of all the buildup of dirt and dust. When that’s done, take a damp rag and clean surfaces like doors and windows to remove grime and make them look and feel clean again.

After dusting, take a broom and sweep all flat surfaces. It’s amazing how much dirt can accumulate even after just a few days! Now that your basic surfaces are cleaned, move on to the more specific areas.

Checklist

  • Dust
  • Wipe down surfaces (doors, door knobs, windows, tabletops, etc)
  • Sweep floors

Bathroom Cleaning Checklist

Although your storage in Kelowna won’t have a bathroom, some of these ideas can apply to your storage.

First, go through your bathroom and remove items you don’t need or use. Find any expired or unused medications and safely dispose of them. Discard expired cosmetics, first aid supplies, and other items that need to be kept up to date.

Second, scrub the sinks, shower, and toilet. Again, it can be astonishing (and gross) how much buildup you can get in a short time, so be sure to do this weekly after your deep clean.

Third, wash the windows and countertops. Use a disinfectant on the countertops to make sure they’re extra clean, and use something streak-free to make your windows shine.

Checklist

  • Declutter by removing broken, expired, unused or underused items
  • Safely dispose of expired or unused medications
  • Replace first aid supplies and over-the-counter pain or illness relief items
  • Scrub sinks, showers and toilets
  • Wipe down any countertops, windows and other surfaces

Reclaim Your Garage

If you’re like many of us, your garage tends to accumulate all sorts of items over the winter so when spring finally comes, there’s barely enough room for your car. Now that you’re deep cleaning, it’s time to reclaim your garage!

First, take everything out and give the surfaces a good scrub. This also works for cleaning your self-storage. Second, sweep out any remaining dirt and grime, and move any non-essential items that may be taking up too much space out of your garage and into your Kelowna storage unit. Last, wipe down any other flat surfaces that may collect dust and then appreciate how much better everything looks and feels!

Checklist

  • Remove all items and wipe down/sweep all surfaces (Garage/Storage Unit)
  • Dust, wipe down and disinfect all items
  • Declutter all non-essential items by tossing or giving away items no longer in use
